Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this! Kelly Clarkson is joining The Voice for its 14th season, NBC announced on Thursday, May 11.

The three-time Grammy winner will be a coach alongside series vets Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. A fourth coach will be named later.

“I’m so excited to join The Voice at NBC,” the “Piece by Piece” singer said in a press release about the news. “We’ve gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn’t been right until now.”

Clarkson has appeared frequently on the show in other roles, though. Back in 2015, she performed with both Koryn Hawthorne and Meghan Linsey on the season 8 finale. And in December, she duetted with Billy Gilman on the Hamilton song “It’s Quiet Uptown.”

The security operative guarding expatriates working with the engineering firm handling the Onna-Etinan dual Carriage way in Akwa Ibom state, shot the judiciary staff identified a Godwin Udoka, over right of way. Udoka was driving the judiciary bus when he ran into a Hilux van belonging to Wizchino Engineering (WE) Limited with registration number, ABC 222 AY. It was reported that this led to serious argument which made the army officer to come down and order the judiciary staff to give way, and upon ‎his refusal the soldier shot at him. However, an eye witness who identified himself as Effiong Akpan said the shooting shattered the front windscreen of the bus and the passenger door. Akpan said: “The soldier and the judiciary staff argued over right of way and in the process the army officer came down when the judiciary driver could not yield to his order, cocked his gun and shot at him. The sound of the gunshot caused pandemonium and passersby scampered for cover in nearby buildings and sheds. It happened within seconds. Before we could figure out what was going on, the soldier fled the scene with the truck. The soldier wasn’t the one who drove the truck; it was driven by another person.”

Also, the victim’s wife, Imaobong said that her husband was contesting for the right of way with the Wizchino pick-up truck along Udo Umana Street, before the soldier and the driver of the truck trailed him from there to Asutan street where he was shot.

An Egyptian once believed to be the ‘world’s heaviest woman’ left an Indian hospital Thursday for the United Arab Emirates where she will continue treatment following drastic weight-loss surgery, doctors said.
Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty weighed roughly 500 kilograms when she arrived in Mumbai in February, but has shed an astonishing 323 kilograms since undergoing a series of medical procedures.

With her weight now standing at 176.6 kilograms, she will begin a year-long course of physiotherapy at VPS Burjeel hospital in Abu Dhabi, her doctors in Mumbai said.

“We have arranged for a hydraulic stretcher from Italy for Eman’s journey and she will have doctors, paramedics and nurses with her during the journey,” Sanet Meyer, director of medevac at VPS Burjeel, told newsmen.

Abd El Aty was put on a special liquid diet in India to reduce her weight enough so that doctors could perform bariatric surgery.

The stomach-shrinking bypass procedure is increasingly common in India, which has a growing problem with obesity, particularly in urban areas.

She had not left her home in Egypt’s Mediterranean port city of Alexandria for two decades until she arrived in India on a specially-modified Airbus plane in February.

Her family told doctors that as a child she was diagnosed with elephantiasis, a condition that causes the limbs and other body parts to swell, leaving her almost immobile.

Abd El Aty has suffered a stroke and faced a series of other serious ailments owing to her weight including diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension and sleep deprivation.

She is unable to speak properly and is partially paralysed.

A civil servant, Micheal Ayinde, on Wednesday, pleaded with an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to end his marriage because of his wife’s penchant for making babies.

Ayinde, 39, told the court that his wife, whose name he gave as Glory, enjoyed “giving births at will’’.

According to him, Glory has made six children within the nine-year duration of their marriage.

Ayinde explained that before he married Glory, he had warned her that he needed only two kids, irrespective of their gender so that he could afford their upkeep.

He said that Glory reached an agreement with him on the matter, only for her to discard the agreement.

“My lord, my wife wants to kill me with children; she is bearing them like rats.

“My wife agreed to have two kids with me but after marriage, she started having children like rats, in nine years, she delivered six children.

“She was sacked from her workplace just because she gets pregnant immediately after she resumed from a maternity leave.

“I have sold my cars and some of my property to cater for the children.

“After she had the fourth baby, I begged her to go for family planning, she refused.

“I had to force her to the hospital for a family planning device but she went secretly to deactivate it without my consent.

“Some months later, she went to her parent’s place and sent me a text message that she was pregnant.

“She did not return home until after delivering and naming the baby in her parent’s place.

Ayinde said that on Dec. 24, 2016, Glory left home again for her parent’s place, where she called again that was pregnant and that she would be back after delivering.

“Last month, she called me that she had delivered and named the baby, David.

“Please sir, dissolve this marriage because if I continue to live with this woman, she will continue to have more children.

“I will be compelled to sell my remaining property, which is my house and then, become a beggar.”

Ayinde also accused his wife, who was not in the court of starving him and their children of food.

“My wife starves us of food. I always buy food stuff at home but she will never cook.

“If she managed to cook once in two weeks, the food is always tasteless.

“I don’t eat her food anymore because I vomit anytime I eat her food.”

The father of six also alleged that his wife was not washing his clothes and those of their children.

He said that he had employed a dry cleaner to wash clothes for him and his kids.

The President of the court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, however, ordered bailiffs to serve Glory another summon for the next adjournment of the matter.

He adjourned the case until May 16 for further hearing.

A housewife, Foluke Ojo, has prayed a magistrates’ court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, to dissolve the marriage with her husband, Busuyi Ojo.

Foluke said she was tired of the union due to her husband’s demand for “too much s3x” and that he no longer takes care of the family. The couple, who have been married for 14 years, said they were no longer enjoying the union and had agreed on the dissolution.

The applicant alleged that all her man wanted was to always have sex, adding that anytime she refused to have sex with him, she would be beaten up by her husband.

She further explained that after beating her, he (Busuyi) would still go ahead and have sex with her.

“There was a day my husband beat me up. It was my mother that rescued me and took me to a hospital”, she said.

Busuyi, however, denied the allegations levelled against him by his wife and alleged that his wife always disobeyed him at home.

“She dresses like a prostitute, she wears any dress she likes, forgetting that she is a housewife,” Busuyi said.

The husband urged the court to grant his wife’s request and terminate the 14-year-old marriage.

President of the Magistrates’ Court, Mr. Ayodele Omotola, in his ruling, said the relationship had broken down, but urged the parties to allow peace to reign.

The court president ordered the respondent to pay a sum of N5,000 to the court for the food allowances of their children.

Popular Afropop singer, Yemi Alade, has been confirmed as the newest star to occupy the famous red chair as a coach on season two of ‘The Voice Nigeria.’

Alade joins the trio of Timi Dakolo, Patoranking and Waje who served as coaches that critique contestants’ performances and guide their teams of selected artistes through the remainder of the season while also competing to ensure that their act wins the reality TV show.

The Federal Government has described the hoopla generated by President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the National Assembly, in which he said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will coordinate the activities of the government in his absence, as a needless distraction.

President Buhari, who left Abuja for London on Sunday night to attend to his health, wrote the National Assembly, in compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) informing it of his trip and also announcing Osinbajo as the man in charge of the nation’s affairs.

However, a section of the letter, which read:’’ While I am away, the Vice President will co-ordinate the activities of the government,’’ provoked huge debates in the polity. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday, said the controversy was unnecessary. According to him, what was valid is compliance with the relevant section of the law which he said was fulfilled.

“It is a needless controversy. It is just a distraction.

The operating sentence is ‘in compliance with Section 145(1),’ any other word used is not relevant,” he said. As would be expected, Lai Mohammed’s comments elicited more comments, yesterday.

While some agreed with him, others kicked. Those who agreed that the furore was unnecessary include human rights lawyer, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN; Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed; former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav; and Chief Akin Osuntokun, former Political Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo. However, the likes of Lagos lawyer, Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa, former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara; National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin; and President of the Arewa Consultative Youth Forum, AYCF, Malam Shettima Usman Yerima disagreed.

To Yerima Usman Shettima, the originator of the letter is mischievous because “the situation as it is may lead to a constitutional crisis. The letter written did not state Osinbajo should act as president. Whoever wrote that letter did it deliberately to achieve a selfish interest. Those who wrote it did it out of mischief to limit the power of the acting president. The government should not tell us that this is a mere distraction because it concerns all Nigerians.”

On his part, Fani-Kayode said: “Trust me when I tell you that the presidency doesn’t give a damn about constitutional provisions, the rules or the niceties. The only thing that is relevant is the interpretation that the service chiefs and the military place on the “National Coordinator” letter that was sent to the Senate. They will act on that interpretation if…and they are urged to do so by the presidency.

That is the game plan. “It is not by accident that every single security agency in Nigeria today is headed by a northern Muslim except for the Navy.

And now for the first time since 1999, a northern Muslim has been appointed GOC of the all powerful and critical 1 Division which covers the North-West. Another has just been appointed to head the 81st Division, Lagos, and the 9th Mechanized Brigade, Ikeja. “Finally, all of Osinbajo’s security team have been changed except for his ADC. Most of the Yoruba have been withdrawn and he is now being guarded by only northerners. He would have lost his ADC too but he objected strongly to that one and they left him. The man needs our support and prayers.

‘’Every Yoruba man and southerner, regardless of party affiliation, owes him and the south that much. There is one more thing that I know which will shock Nigerians but I will not say it now. It is unbelievable and shocking and when you hear it you will all appreciate the sheer humiliation that Osinbajo has been put through”

However, Ebun Olu Adegboruwa disagreed, saying the “‘President appointing the VP as coordinator is an impeachable offence.” He said the move is a constitutional crisis, since the National Assembly cannot pronounce Osinbajo as Acting President without the President’s letter and a resolution of the two chambers of the legislature. His words: “A coordinator is a person of equal status with others. So the VP cannot make appointments or sack anybody while the President is away.

He cannot discipline any erring minister; he is limited in policy decisions, as a co-ordinator. He has no power of control over the cabal to whom the President has handed over power, albeit illegally. “The chief of staff was recently reported to have moved vital documents away from Aso Villa In effect, Nigeria has no leader at present.

The existing office of VP is no more. The constitutionally-created office of Acting President has been circumscribed by the President.

The President is away on an indefinite medical trip abroad. “The Senate lacks the power to pronounce Osinbajo as Acting President, without a written resolution of both chambers of the National Assembly, through a decision taken on the Floor of both chambers. The President cannot travel for medical check up for an indefinite period of time. “The National Assembly should reject the letter from the President. There is, therefore, a serious constitutional crisis.

“Pro-government lawyers and activists, who have goaded the Buhari administration into dubious and reckless interpretations of the Constitution in the past, should be held responsible for the current crisis and all acts of impunity from Aso Villa. “In all, the National Assembly should commence impeachment proceedings against the President for gross misconduct.”
